“Royal London” wedding floral masterclass from Karen Tran.
On the 26th March I had the opportunity to attend the Karen Tran Floral Master Class which was held at The Lanesborough Hotel in Hyde Park, London and planned by event planning extraordinaire, Jane Riddell, Owner of Planned for Perfection.
The host Elizabeth Solaru from Elizabeth’s Cake Emporium made sure we were all informed of the activities planned for the next few days and it was a delight to listen to her story with regards to becoming the successful cake-stress that she is today!
Day 1 – Meeting the Masterclass Participants.
On our arrival Karen Tran provided us with an extremely warm welcome which was soon followed by all the students introducing themselves and their perspective businesses.
It was very apparent by this point that I was surrounded by a wealth of knowledge and that I would make some amazing connections and friends throughout this floral masterclass journey.
The theme of the masterclass was ‘Royal London’ which was perfect considering London is expected to host the Royal Wedding of Megan and Harry this year in May!
Elizabeth and Jane had arranged a surprise guest speaker which we were delighted to find out was Bernadette Chapman from the United Kingdom Association of Wedding Planners (UKAWP). Bernadette gave a very insightful talk about what it takes to succeed in the luxury market of the events industry.
An Array of Knowledge and Experience
Bernadette brings an array of knowledge and experience within the wedding and events industry so we were very grateful to be able to absorb any information and advice she was able to offer .
After lunch we were taken to the Belgravia Room at the Lanesborough, which was the room Karen Tran’s Floral Gala would be held in. This room was exquisitely beautiful with a wealth of opulence and decadence.
The ceiling was full of incredible paintings which added magnificently to the Royal Theme, but what really caught my attention was the thousands of flowers in the room that we would soon get the opportunity to work with. I was so excited! I had never been in the presence of this many beautiful flowers.
Karen took the time to show us how to create one of her amazing centrepieces which was an invaluable experience. We were shown the techniques Karen uses to create her incredible flower wall.
Once we understood some of the mechanics, we practiced a little and was put to work on the creating Wednesday nights gala which included oversized centrepieces, an extraordinary flower wall archway and a beautiful stairway floral design.
Day 2 – Help from Wild About Flowers
We arrived bright and early on day two rearing to go and continued working towards creating Karen’s beautiful designs. It was such hard work but fortunately the Wild About Flowers Team were on hand to assist with the creations and make sure things where running as smoothly as they could.
Leanne Roberts-Hewitt, the owner of Wild About Flowers is an insatiable woman and florist and I was so grateful to be able to learn from her and her team. They worked so hard to make sure we stayed on track of our 3 day deadline and are a real family.
After lunch we were pleasantly surprised by an intimate talk with Karen whereby she was willing to share with us some of her personal experiences as a world renowned florist and designer.
Karen is a very inspiration woman and it was lovely to hear about her passion and how she started in the industry. Soon after we were back to work creating the magnificent setting planned for the Gala.
Day 3 – The Finished Gala
Day 3 was another early start and we were all so excited to start to see everything come together. Although we still had a lot to do there was a real feeling of accomplishment in the air, but at the same time we were all exhausted from days and hours of hard work.
The evening of the Gala had finally arrived, and I will never forget the feeling I had when I first walked into the Belgravia Room and saw it all finished! It was stunning! The room really was fit for royalty.
The evening of the Gala continued to be amazing and I was glad to see a few familiar faces. We ate, drank and enjoyed the luxury setting with a proud feeling gracing us, knowing that we were enjoying a beautiful design we had helped to create.
The whole experience was incredible, and I look forward to continuing our journey, being able to use the wealth of knowledge obtained over the 3 days of attending The Floral Master with the amazingly talented Karen Tran.
