Your wedding cake inspiration can come from just about anywhere. Whether it’s your rustic wedding venue, mutual love for the colour purple or your favourite flowers when the ideas are endless it’s just another worry on your cakeless plate.

So if you’re overwhelmed by all the choices or stumped on ideas, we’ve created a list of this year’s trending wedding cake inspiration to send you in the right direction, because even though wedding cake trends change with the times, eating cake will always remain timeless.

Dark and Moody

@cbcakery

Why have a white wedding cake when you can have a moody black one? The idea of a black wedding cake certainly isn’t new, considering black goes with everything, but it’s popularity this year is ever growing.

Whilst the idea of a cake covered solely in black fondant might be a bit boring to the eye so dress it up. Gold accents and soft floral pieces can make it elegant and romantic, perfect for this year’s autumn or winter wedding.

Texture

Wedding cakes with texture can be really eye-catching and unique. You can choose to have an all-white cake with ruffle and lace detail or if you’d like more colour then beautiful sugar paste flowers might be more your thing.

Although, if you want something that can utterly impress your guests and that’s right on trend, the absolutely stunning geode designs might be your cake of choice. As pictured above, the cake mimicks the appearance of a geode using hard rock to create the crystal interior, gold leaf for the details and white fondant for the remaining exterior for a sleek, clean finish.

Alternative

Now if you don’t like cake, it’s not a problem. Over the past few years, this trend has become increasingly popular and you may have seen the cheese wheel wedding cake trending all over the internet.

If having a cheese wheel cake is a bit much there are many other options. The popular macaron tower wedding cake that looks just as elegant as a real wedding cake or a cake pop tower cake. Both ideas visually stunning and sure to win over the crowd.

Single tier

If you’re having a smaller more intimate wedding then this trend is perfect for you. Rustic naked cakes with beautiful floral accents are having a moment and would look perfect at an outdoor wedding this summer.

However, if you prefer one tier to create a chic minimalistic look then adding watercolour brush strokes or metallic accents can still make a statement. Plus, a smaller cake can also go in the opposite direction of minimalism and mean bigger accents- think foliage or lettering!

Geometric

Bold, strong lines make a statement and can create a breathtaking centerpiece for both the room and conversation amongst guests. You can go for a more classic cube multiple tier look or create your own unique shapes to elevate the simplicity of the design.

Although, if you really want to take it to another level. Instead of the classic floating cake, create a minimalistic statement with a geometric floating cake that looks elegant and stylish and sure to shock your guests.

Floral

@missladybirdcakes

The floral wedding cake trend doesn’t look like it will stop anytime soon, in fact, it’s getting bigger and bolder. Eccentric floral arrangements on wedding cakes are becoming increasingly popular, with big, bold colours making a statement.

Elaborate sugar paste flowers are also on trend with some designs even adding edible flowers to the mix. Whichever floral design you choose, remember the colour palette. Displaying the meanings of your chosen flowers can create a personal and romantic touch to the day.
